Opti Sailing / Racing

C420 Sailing / Racing

The MSYSP Opti racing team is our entry level race program. Our program is designed to teach basic to intermediate fundamentals to youth racers. Any skill level can join the Opti program to learn basic sailing and racing skills.

AGES:

Opti sailors should be at least 8 years old up to 14. The younger sailors will participate in green fleet regattas and the older sailors will compete as RWB once the necessary skills are obtained.

ABILITY LEVEL:

While some sailing experience is suggested, such as an MSYSP summer program, it is not required. We will accept and teach youth sailors of any skill level.

TIME COMMITMENT:

Sailors are recommended to attend both practices every week. While sailing Opti’s is an individual sport, the team learns and grows together. Additional practices will be suggested for the week before regattas or team events. As a team we will attempt to attend one regatta per month. The more practice the young sailors have, the more enjoyable the regattas will be. Parents will be asked to transport small boats and equipment too and from regattas if they have the ability to.

COST:

$500 for the Fall or Spring Season (2-day practice).  Sibling youth sailor will be offered for $250. Payment options available. Additional regatta fees are not included in the session price.

The MSYSP 420 racing team is our advanced race program. 420 sailboats are sailed in 2 person configurations consisting of a captain and a crew position. Sailors aging or sizing out of the Opti race boats will be moved to the 420 program. Sailor will find the 420 boats much more challenging and faster than their previous Opti.

AGES:

420 sailors should be at least 14 years old and preferably weight 100lbs or more.

ABILITY LEVEL:

While some sailing experience is suggested, such as an MSYSP summer program or opti race session, it is not required. We will accept and teach any skill level.
